  • – Keep yourself hydrated. This day will be full of emotions and nervousness as it is – the last thing you need is to dehydrate yourself and feel ill as a consequence. And the same thing stays valid for your guests as well: make sure to provide them with water, ice tea and refreshments both throughout the ceremony and throughout the reception.
  • – Think of some shading options. Don’t allow your guests to stay out in the sun for more than a couple of minutes – provide them with some shade options (such as parasols, choosing a venue that has a lot of shady trees and so on).
  • – Stay away from grass (and especially from wet grass). It will stain you (and your bridal party’s) shoes and, if you are wearing long dresses, it will also stain those as well.
  • – Use anti-perspirant on your…feet. Believe it or not, this will lower the odds that you get painful blisters that would ruin your Big Day. Also, don’t forget to take a travel-sized deodorant with you as well.
  • – Make sure your food is fresh (and that it will stay fresh throughout the wedding). Talk to your venue and/or catering manager and see what options they have to make sure they store the food in a completely safe way, so that it doesn’t go bad.

How to Avoid Getting Drunk at Your Wedding Reception

Of course, your wedding is a happy event (both for you as a couple and for the guests you have invited to be there for you). However, the last thing you want is to be tipsy at your own wedding! How to avoid getting drunk at your wedding reception, though? Here are some useful tips to keep in mind:

  • Drink, but make sure to keep count. Now, if you are serving alcohol at your wedding, you will need to toast with your guests. However, you should make sure to keep count and to constantly remind yourself what your “maximum number” is. If you know you cannot hold more than 2-3 glasses of alcohol/night, don’t move past that!
  • Eat something. Really, eat something before the wedding and at the wedding. Yes, you want to be able to fit in your dress and that’s perfectly normal. But having a healthy, nutritious breakfast before the Big Day starts will help you keep your energy levels high and it will help you avoid getting sick. Moreover, eating at least a bit at the wedding reception will also help you hold your liquor as well.
  • Keep yourself hydrated. Remind yourself to drink water and other refreshments throughout the entire day, so that you don’t get dehydrated. Also, have a glass of soda/juice/water or a non-alcoholic cocktail in between your alcoholic drinks. This way, you will keep your hands busy and you will not feel the need to grab another glass of champagne.

Summer Wedding “Rules” to Ignore

What are some Summer wedding “rules” to ignore this year? What are those tips you should actually not stress over too much? We have gathered some of the most important things to know about this – so make sure to read on if you want to find out more.

  • – Outdoor wedding. Sure, many couples choose to have a summer outdoor ceremony and/or reception (mostly because the weather allows them to do this), but the truth is that you don’t have to do this. If you want an indoor wedding, you should definitely go for it.
  • – Short bridesmaid dresses. Many brides want their attendants to wear short dresses because the weather is hot during the summer and they want their special ladies to feel comfortable during the wedding. However, this is not an absolute “must-do”. As long as the fabrics you choose for the dresses are light enough, you are more than free to settle for mid-length or even long dresses for your bridesmaids.
  • – Furthermore, you don’t have to choose warm colors for their dresses either. Black, white and cool colors are perfectly fine – and they are more than OK for the wedding color scheme too. Summer is not all about bright colors and if you feel more attracted to something else, you are more than free to have it at your wedding.

Is a Traditional Wedding Cake Right for You?

Just because it is almost mandatory to serve your guests with dessert, it doesn’t mean that you have to serve them with a  traditional wedding cake too. Is a traditional wedding cake right for you? How to decide what type of dessert you should serve your guests with? Read on and find out more.

  • Remember, this is YOUR Big Day and nobody in the world should be allowed you make you do something you don’t want to. If you don’t want a traditional wedding cake, that’s perfectly fine. Even more, if you simply want a cocktail party for your wedding and you don’t want to serve dessert, that’s perfectly fine too.
  • Decide on what type of wedding you want to have. Although these days everything is allowed and you can make the “craziest” combinations, a more traditional wedding may look better with a more traditional wedding cake too. However, as mentioned before, nothing is mandatory.
  • Traditional wedding cakes can be replaced by many other desserts: pies, naked cakes (cakes without actual frosting that are usually decorated with sugar, syrup, flowers and/or fruit) and even more non-conventional desserts (such as donut towers) will work just fine.
  • Even more, if you want to save some money or if you want to avoid having a melting cake on a hot summer day, you can always go for the “fake cake” option too. These cakes imitate real cakes to perfection, but they are cheaper and they keep better even at the highest temperatures. When the time comes to serve your guests with cake, you can ask the waiters to bring them slices of a less expensive (but equally delicious) cake that has been kept cool in the kitchen.

No matter what type of wedding cake or dessert you may choose for your wedding, rest assured that it will look wonderful in the “background” provided by The Mackey House. Come visit us, take a look around and see for yourself why we are considered to be among the most beautiful wedding venues in Savannah!

Plan An Outdoor Bridal Shower on a Budget

Planning an outdoor bridal shower on a budget may seem like an impossible mission – but the truth is that it is more than doable. If you pay attention to details and if you use your creativity, you will definitely plan a bridal shower your friend or relative will genuinely enjoy. Here’s how to plan an outdoor bridal shower on a budget (and how to make sure it will be really unforgettable):

  • Pay attention to the lighting you choose. Most likely, the bridal shower will extend late into the evening and you want to make sure everything is properly lit. Use DIY Mason Jars or paper lanterns and you will contribute a lot to the décor of the party as well.
  • Speaking of décor, you don’t have to invest a lot of money in the florals. Sure, they can beautify any kind of venue (be it indoor or outdoor), but since this will be an informal party, you don’t need fancy arrangements created by a bridal florist. You can simply buy fresh flower bouquets from the local greenery and they will look absolutely gorgeous.
  • As for the food, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on it either. Again, this is meant to be an informal party so you don’t even need to have a sit-down dinner. There are so many delicious hors d’oeuvres options out there that you will not even “miss” expensive plated dinners!

Mackey House is a gorgeous wedding venue located in Savannah – and we would be more than happy if your soon-to-be-married friends or relatives would choose us for their Big Day. If they are still searching for the perfect wedding venue, don’t forget to recommend us to them and we promise to provide them with a venue that will make their wedding absolutely unforgettable!
