Savannah Wedding: Lito and Sarah

It was very exciting for us at The Mackey House to be a part of such a unique proposal that turned into the actual wedding! There definitely was not a dry eye from anyone who witnessed this touching moment, and we are thrilled to share this couple’s story.

Marriage wasn’t initially in the cards for Lito and Sarah, but all that changed when Lito surprised Sarah with not only a proposal, but also a wedding immediately following. Unbeknownst to the bride, this special day was planned by the groom and a close friend. It was set up as a photo shoot, which Sarah agreed to participate in, and numerous vendors were in on the surprise wedding. Sarah was shocked when Lito proposed, so shocked that he had to ask multiple times. It wasn’t until her family appeared on our balcony that Sarah finally said yes to get married in that moment. We love that this proposal and wedding was spontaneous, creative and all about the love between the bride and groom.

We are over the moon happy to see that this wedding caught the attention of South Magazine and was recently featured! Check out the article here and thank you South Magazine for this opportunity.

Congratulations to the lovely couple on your marriage and big thanks to the several photographers who captured this day (APhotography, Brengman Photography, Blu Owl Photography and Island Photo & Video).

Wedding Fun for All Generations

Nieces, nephews, best friends and grandparents: most weddings have to be entertaining for people of all ages. Today, we want to share some suggestions for making sure that every single guest, no matter the age, has an incredible time on your big night. Specifically, we are going to focus on two opposite ends of the age spectrum: children and grandparents.

Weddings are a family affair and children are bound to be in attendance so it is always a good idea to simply keep your expectations in check. No child is going to act perfect all the time so just go with it! There are plenty of easy (and inexpensive) ways to keep the kids on their best behavior. For example, during the actual ceremony, giving the smaller kids wedding themed coloring books will keep them quiet and in their seats long enough for you to be able to enjoy the big moment.

During the reception however, there may be too much going on for the children to stay focused on their artwork. If there are going to be a lot of kids at your wedding, it may be a good idea to hire a background-checked babysitter to entertain them with games and tasty treats.

We also love the idea of giving some of the children an important wedding day “job.” Cheap disposable cameras are easy ways to provide hours of fun for young children. Send them out into the crowd with the mission of getting the best pictures; you might be surprised at how seriously they take it.

On the other side of the spectrum, we have the grandparents who are a piece of cake when compared to the little ones. For this generation of guests, you should be mindful to have plenty of seating for everybody, as well as a wide variety of reception music, to ensure they will enjoy themselves on the dance floor as well.

While these are just a few of the ways that you can make your wedding fun for everyone, as always, the most important thing is for you to have the time of your life. Because when guests see you enjoying yourself, they cannot help but follow.

Celebrating July Fourth

Happy Fourth of July from The Mackey House! We hope you have a splendid day celebrating this holiday and our nation’s independence. This day remains special to all of us proud Americans, and we would like to share some holiday wedding inspiration for all of the patriotic brides out there!

The first thing you need at a Fourth of July themed wedding are American flags of course! You can give out little flags for guests to wave as wedding favors or create interesting centerpieces with them for reception tables.

Nautical is a theme that is taking off these days and it’s also a fun spin off the red, white and blue color scheme.  Incorporating details like knotted ropes and anchors can add a lot of romantic symbolism to your wedding. We are in love with this stunning cake that includes all of those elements, while still evoking a level of simplicity.

Who doesn’t love a good cocktail on July Fourth? Create a Fourth of July signature drink for all your guests to sip on. The Food Network has an awesome list of drinks and recipes for this holiday, including the one provided in this photo!

Our recent post titled, “The Perfect Summer Wedding” mentioned the idea of giving fans for guests to cool down with as wedding favors.  To expand on that idea, we thought of adding an American flag on it for a more patriotic look. Guests will find ones like this photo to be absolute perfection!

The Mackey House loves a good wedding send off, and these red, white and blue star sprinkles (photographed by Michelle Lange Photography; featured on Geneva Wedding) are adorable.

This is an awesome dessert station that embodies classic American sweets. We love the idea of mixing something traditional like caramel apples and cookies with something modern like cake pops and cupcakes. Add some stars and stripes and red, white and blue and you’ve got an American wedding!

Fourth of July would not be complete without fireworks. One way to incorporate this on your wedding day is by distributing sparklers for your guests to use as a fabulous send off like the one in this photo captured by Dream Weaver Photos during one of our own receptions. We would like to remind everyone that The Mackey House also provides fireworks as one of our services, so this is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of it!

We hope you are in love with these holiday inspired ideas as much as we are! Once again, The Mackey House would like to wish everyone a Happy Fourth of July, and also a sincere thank you to our troops who continue to fight for our nation’s independence.
