Inspiring Summer Details for Outdoor Weddings

Every year, the summer feels like an ode to the bold. Color palettes truly pop with combinations of bright hues, flower arrangements overflow with some of the best in-season blooms, and there’s a huge desire to spend as much time outside as possible. No matter the season in Savannah, many of our couples elect to celebrate outside. But, there’s something extra special about the warmest months of the year. Brides and grooms host their ceremonies in our garden, they dine in our pavilion as the sounds of summer swirl around them, and they dance under the stars or inside a tent.

To honor our current season, today we’re highlighting five summer details we adore the most. And, there’s good news – you can incorporate as many as you would like into your Savannah summer wedding day at The Mackey House!

Travel by Trolley

One of the most popular ways to see the sights in Savannah is by trolley. Not only can you make the suggestion to your guests (or even set up a tour for everyone to enjoy together!), but you, your love, and all of your guests can also arrive at your wedding in a trolley. If you’re not planning to provide transportation to your guests, we highly suggest opting for a trolley for your wedding party. It can take everyone from your chosen getting-ready location to The Mackey House and back again at the end of the night.

Celebrate Summer Flowers

From the spring all the way through the fall, there are countless flowers that are in-season. One great way to keep your flower budget in check is to work with your florist to use in-season blooms in bouquets, altar arrangements, and centerpieces. We love seeing peonies in early summer, roses during the height of summer, and dahlias and zinnias as summer begins to transition into fall. Tall centerpieces reaching toward the ceiling in our pavilion is one of our favorite views!

Tie Your Hair Up with a Braid

Savannah is known for its heat and humidity during the summer, so updos for brides, bridesmaids, and guests are a must. This one that combines a low chignon with a classic braid is a favorite of ours because it’s timeless while still embracing modern style. Not to mention, this style is wonderful with a veil! How will you wear your hair on your wedding day?

Serve a Signature Drink with Seasonal Fruit

Not only does the summer bloom with a plethora of flowers, but the season also brings plenty of fruit. Blueberries, strawberries, and peaches are all excellent choices to incorporate into your cocktails. Talk with your bartending team about recipes. One may even pique your interest as a signature cocktail!

Embrace Bold Blooms and Beaded Backs

Your wedding bouquet is one of the most iconic details you will carry throughout your wedding day, and we love when bouquets stand out with bold blooms. They’re a great way to embrace in-season flowers (like we mentioned above) and they also provide the perfect opportunity to add plenty of color to your look. Plus, we love beaded gowns during the summer! It’s unlikely you will cover your dress with a wrap at any time (there’s no reason to try to stay warm!), so why not choose a dress that has an incredible beaded back? A bridal portrait moment like this could be on your horizon!
